Community Living North Perth

SERVICES—OVERVIEW

Advocacy

We’re always exploring ways to better support those with disabilities into our communities on all levels. We promote community awareness and build positive referral networks, as well as providing a place to listen, learn and share within friends and families.

Our self-advocacy group, Self Advocates of North Perth is a group people who have developmental disabilities and advocate for equal citizenship, acceptance and belonging in the community. This group provides a forum to discuss disabilities and the importance of inclusion in our community, with topics like “We are All the Same,” “The Power of Words and Labels,” “Removing Barriers Through Education,” etc. The Self Advocates of North Perth promote a community where all—regardless of race, religion, or abilities—share the right to be here, to live life to the fullest and to be respected and treated with dignity.

We meet monthly, learn how to speak up for ourselves, discover self-direction, participate in fundraising, increase public awareness, advocate to the government, do presentations, engage in learning opportunities, host dances and have fun!

Residential Support

We offer support networks that ensure that all participants can live as independently as possible in the best accommodations possible.

We do our best to match support levels to the required need, although there is at least one support staff present for the entire 24-hours of a day at our group home in Listowel. This home is staffed with qualified personnel who assist with the day to day tasks of independent living, as well as support a person’s choices and self-determination for their own lives.

Community
Participation

We equip individuals to participate in community recreational, educational, social and volunteer events that match their interests and goals. People who participate in these supports discover great opportunities to be included in their communities through:

  •     Physical fitness
  •     Arts and music
  •     Health and wellness
  •     Social gatherings
  •     Volunteerism
  •     Community Sporting Events

Employment

Building on their strengths and interests, we encourage individuals toward career readiness and job search support. We’re there every step of the way, including:

  •     Transferable skill training
  •     Health and safety on the job
  •     Job readiness classes
  •     Career exploration
  •     Workplace expectations
  •     Resume writing
  •     Interview preparation
  •     Employment applications
  •     Work experience
  •     Linkage to job placement

Employment training is a time-limited support that helps job seekers develop work-related skills in preparation for community employment. Training is provided on an individualized basis.

Assistance in finding employment is available to our supported persons through Partners in Employment. For direct assistance or more information, please call (519) 291-2726.
